Katie joined our firm in September 2017 and practices exclusively in the area of criminal law, with a focus on research, writing, and appeal drafting. Since her call to the Alberta Bar in 2013, she has acquired a broad spectrum of experience and legal expertise in all areas of criminal trial advocacy, bail hearings, and criminal appeals. Katie works hard to ensure her clients get the best possible outcome and most fair treatment by the courts in the judicial process. She is passionate about improving outcomes in the intersection between mental illness and the criminal justice system, and regularly appears at Review Board Hearings at Alberta Hospital, Edmonton.
Katie graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law in 2012 after receiving a B.A. in English with a Minor in Sociology, also from the U of A. While at the Faculty of Law, she volunteered extensively with Student Legal Services representing low income individuals charged with criminal and regulatory offenses in the Provincial Court of Alberta. A strong supporter of SLS, Katie served on the Board of Directors of that non-profit organization for a four-year term.
Katie is the 2017 President of the Edmonton Bar Association, and has been an executive member of that organization since 2013. She also serves as a Board Member for WINGS of Providence, a second-stage women’s shelter, and is a member of the Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association. Katie also enjoys participating in the Elizabeth Fry Society’s volunteer legal clinic at the Edmonton Institution for Women.
Katie is currently focussed on legal research and writing in the areas of Appeals and Charter litigation.
