Client plead guilty to importing prohibited firearm parts into Canada and making false statements to Border Agents. Client travelled to the US to purchase various firearm trigger assemblies and other gun parts. He was an avid antique gun collector. Upon arriving at the border, false declarations were made, and a search of his vehicle lead to numerous charges given that many of the gun parts being imported were prohibited in Canada . Crown sought a two year jail sentence.

Held: 12 month Conditional Sentence plus probation imposed.  

Client had no record and the defence presented evidence of the his psychological conditions which included a pervasive pattern of shopping and collecting.  ‎The Court was satisfied that our client did not pose a risk to public safety, and that a jail sentence was not necessary.
