Lauren graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law in 2024. Prior to law school, she graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with distinction in Political Science. She also holds certificates in Community Service Learning and Business Analysis.
During law school, Lauren was heavily involved in a number of student groups. She was Chair of the Women’s Law Forum Speaker Series and Social Coordinator for OUTLaw, volunteered with Student Legal Services’ Criminal and Legal Education projects, and was a member of the Class of 2024 Grad Committee and the Law Faculty Council. She was on the Dean’s List in her second year of law school and received the OUTlaw and Friends Inclusivity Award for commitment to the advancement of LGBTQ2S+ communities and the Margaret-Ellen Bonar Scholarship for involvement in women’s issues within the legal profession.
Lauren’s interest in Criminal Law was ignited through participation in the Mental Health Law course, where she worked in Edmonton’s Mental Health Court with duty counsel. She successfully completed courses in Criminal Procedure, Advanced Evidence, Professional Ethics, Advocacy, and Sentencing.
In her second year, she participated in the Client Consultation Competition moot, earning a perfect score with her partner in the first round. Participation in this moot prepared her for empathetic and effective client relationships.
Lauren knows that the criminal justice system can be confusing and overwhelming, and seeks to provide a respectful and safe environment for clients. She believes strongly in the presumption of innocence and ensuring participants in the justice system are treated fairly.
